I started out as a con-goer back in 2008. It mattered so much to me how accurate and realistic one person can go to look exactly like the character they are cosplaying. So I’d like to take this opportunity to feature some of my favorite Cosplayers, whom I’ve had such honor in meeting and befriending along the way.. -katz
CosFeature n#13: Guy Singzon ..aka Kuya Guy
K- My next feature is not only a veteran Cosplayer for four years, but also famed for his outstanding mecha/armor cosplays of our time! He has driven cosplay to a level of the impossible and has chosen it as a means to make a living. I look up to his balance in life of cosplaying when he wants to.. and from being a father when he needs to.
Konnichiwa! Thank you so much for squeezing some time for me, sir Guy. Let us start from the beginning, shall we? What would you like to be called?
GS – Call me Kuya Guy.
K- Hi sir.. este Kuya (means big brother)! Your interest in cosplay, how and when did it start?
GS- I’ve known cosplay for a long time in Japan. But my first encounter was when I attended Toycon 2005, it was also my first time to see Cosplay here in our country.
K- Whoa 2005, I was still graduating then ehehe! Tell me, did you make your first costume back then? Or you had it tailored?
GS- My first costume was Colonial Marine from Aliens 2. Modified water gun and I borrowed a military uniform. I made my Chestbuster out of styrofoam. That was Hero Convention 2007.

K- Whoa so you were very much into props making even from the start! Awesome!! Do you prefer solo or group cosplays?
GS- I joined group cosplays, Toycon 2009 Yun WWE Wrestling. We won. Then this year on Ozine 2011, I managed a SuckerPunch group. But I prefer Solo because my time is limited, don’t have much time to practice with other cosplayers.
Spawn Samurai
Kiba – Garo Series
K- *spazz* oh the details! How much has cosplay taught you? Pros and Cons?
GS- Cosplay taught me… Patience… lots of it! Sportsmanship and discipline.
K- Have you cosplayed abroad as well? If yes, how can you compare it locally? If not, what could you have wished for?
GS- Hoping to go to AFA this year but as part of Cosplay.ph, I cannot join the competition. Instead, we will show Singaporeans what we are capable of. Probably if I can, I want to cosplay in SanDiego Comic Con.
Most famed cosplay, award winning – Megatron from Transformers movie
Spawn Mandarin
K- *sigh* I have yet to try AFA myself, if time and money permits me. Cosplay aside, what do you do outside the hobby/community?
GS- I’ve made cosplay my career. I got tired of my work in the field as an NGO. I started my PAGAWANAMAN Costumes and Props last 2008. its a costume for Rent, Hire, and commissions. I collect action figures, it’s been my since childhood.
K- Ah there you go! Anyone interested, do visit Kuya’s page (posted below) for more info. So based on your experience, how’s about a message to aspiring child-cosplayers out there?
GS- To all cosplayers out there… If you want to be the best… discipline yourself! And most of all, enjoy your hobby.
K- Now, please tell me something about yourself that no one knows. Like, what makes you YOU?
GS- What makes me ME? My past mistakes (whatever mistakes I’ve made hahahhaha)… that, made me Me.
Thunder God Thor – from the movie THOR
K- Haha indeed!
GS- Big thanks kiddo!
*bows* No problem sir.. este Kuya! Kudos to your awesome cosplays! Your cosplays has even inspired me to try on my first Mecha and now I’m craving to do more hehe! Thinks of doing a commission request in the future hehe! By the way, he’ll be judging in all the legs of Cosplay Mania’s Tournament of Champions a.k.a. TorCH this year. So let’s show him what we’ve got! WHERE YOU’LL FIND HIM: DeviantArt, Facebook, PAGAWANAMAN Costumes and Props
Till next feature~! *mhew
