I started out as a con-goer back in 2008. It mattered so much to me how accurate and realistic one person can go to look exactly like the character they are cosplaying. So I’d like to take this opportunity to feature some of my favorite Cosplayers, whom I’ve had such honor in meeting and befriending along the way.. -katz
CosFeature n#14: Patricia Sy ..aka Patsy
K- She went on haitus because of school, but coming back in the cosplay community made her realize a lot can change. My next feature is a girl who has spoken with one word and instantly reached the ears of more than a hundred. I have featured her famous article here: Today’s Cosplay Community
Let us start from the beginning, shall we? What would you like to be called?
PS- Most people call me Patsy while others give me more cutesy names. I like Patsy since it’s a combination of my first name and last name.
Konata Izumi – Lucky Star
K- Hi patsy, glad to have you back! *hugs* Your interest in cosplay, how and when did it start?
PS- When I was in first year college (2007 whoohoo guess my age!), I met people who were so much into anime who told me about conventions where anybody can dress like his/her favorite character.
K- It’s amazing how our batch pretty much started the same year haha! Tell me, did you make your first costume back then? Or you had it tailored?
PS- I lived in a dorm so I had my first costume (Nemu Kurotsuchi from Bleach) tailored. Although, I was rather disappointed about the work. I did make my own accessories though.
Nemu Kurotsuchi – Bleach
K- Well, it’s still a start. Do you prefer solo or group cosplays?
PS- I prefer group cosplays with my friends (Yarou Family) because it’s always fun doing something that we like together. It’s reflected in the after-cosplay photos, and that’s a good memory to look back to.
Metis (left) – Persona
Maria Ross – Full Metal Alchemist
K- How much has cosplay taught you? Pros and Cons?
PS- I’m not sure if it is something that I learned solely from cosplaying but it did emphasize that it’s more rewarding if you work hard for things that people appreciate later on (ie. making your own props at least). Sadly, cosplay also pointed out to me that any supposedly-innocent hobby can be corrupted (by pervs and capitalists).
K- Indeed! Have you cosplayed abroad as well? If yes, how can you compare it locally? If not, what could you have wished for?
PS- I wish but I haven’t been out of the country yet. It’s not just because I cosplay, I truly wish to see how different cultures are when they are doing the same thing. As for cosplaying, it’s no big deal to me whether or not I give the Philippines a winning title.
Chrome Dokuro – Katekyo Hitman Reborn
K- Cosplay aside, what do you do outside the hobby/community?
PS- I do freelance dubbing for radio/tv commercials, try to finish school, and work part-time as a photographer at The Picture Company ~endorse at the same time~
K- That’s being productive hehe! I know you’ve probably done this a million times but for the viewer’s sake.. Based on your experience, how’s about a message to aspiring cosplayers out there?
PS- I’ve already been too vocal about this
- Generally, cosplay what fits your body type and age to properly be in character.
- If you aren’t of legal age, don’t cosplay sexy characters or wear your skirts too high. The con is supposed to be a General Patronage event not something PG-rated.
- If you can’t sew, at least do your props – it helps bring out your creativity and it sharpens your mind.
- Choose your cos-friends wisely. You should know who are BI.
- Cosplay to relax your mind from school work but don’t forget about school. Not everyone can work as a cosplayer so aim for those diplomas! Brains and personality over physical appearance (applicable to love too)
- Cosplay because you like the character. If you simply like his/her outfit, then research about your character. It’s costume-roleplay for a reason.
Petsha – Dream of Dolls
K- Nuff said. *worship* Now, please tell me something about yourself that no one knows. Like, what makes you YOU?
PS- Not a lot of people know that I am shy (Blood Type A) just because I smile a lot and get crazy sometimes. I’m just confident and at ease with my self. Also, I like adventure and risky stuff. I am P for Paradox – for just about everything. Like, I am health conscious (not to be confused with weight conscious) but I eat street foods and not veggies. There’s this other me that shows up depending on my mood. You know what they say.. “basta Pebrero, kulang-kulang”
K- Really? O.o hehe! Still, this really changes everything. Thanks again Patsy! WHERE YOU’LL FIND HER: Facebook page, DeviantArt, Tumbler
Till next feature~! *mhew

Thank you for the feature Katz!
