I started out as a con-goer back in 2008. It mattered so much to me how accurate and realistic one person can go to look exactly like the character they are cosplaying. So I’d like to take this opportunity to feature some of my favorite Cosplayers, whom I’ve had such honor in meeting and befriending along the way.. -katz
CosFeature n#21: Monette Salas ..a.k.a. Yuzukichii
K- My next feature is about another strong beautiful person in our community. She continues to impress me with surprises up her sleeve. I have seen her works in Seifuku (school girl), Tokusatsu (special effect films), Loli, Traditional, Maid, Game girls, Western cartoons and probably more. I love how she likes to challenge herself with different cosplay categories! She puts flower in Girl Power!
Konnichiwa! Thank you so much for squeezing some time for me.
MS- Hi Katz, anything for you~ ^__^
K- Awww I miss you girl! *huggles* Let us start from the beginning, shall we? What would you like to be called?
MS- Just call me Monette
Kameal
K- Your interest in cosplay, how and when did it start?
MS- It’s started as an accident when I went to Hero con 2006, I was wearing my summer kimono when another cosplayer asked me to register for cosplay, even if I was too shy to catwalk at that time. I said yes because she was very persistent, but it was worth it I really liked how it felt back then and to be praised by the host. ^__^
Taki Suzuna - Eye shield 21
K- Tell me, did you make your first costume back then? Or you had it tailored?
MS- I bought it in Japan for natsu matsuri, it was a simple white kimono with flowers on it and I wore it with yellow obi. Its very comfortable.
Kokoro – Dead or Alive series
K- Oohh! *x* I have seen you in other kimonos, like your Kaoru Kamiya cosplay. Very pretty! Do you prefer solo or group cosplays?
MS- Ever since I started cosplaying I’ve always preferred solo due problems with time and place of practice, they’re usually far, I tried joining a group w/c was CLOUND9 recently but failed to maintain it
Kamen Rider Femme – Kamen Rider Ryuki
K- How much has cosplay taught you? Pros and Cons?
MS- Pros: I was able to make a lot of friends in cosplay,I’ve always been a loner ever since I was a kid, my daily routine would be school then house, but now I’m able to enjoy the hobby that I love with people who share the same passion as I am.
Cons: I learned that you can never please everyone, people will forget the good things that you did but will always remember the mistakes or the bad things that you have done.
Kameal final transformation – Lineage II
K- ZOMG this is jsut amazing! WINGS!! *ahem* Have you cosplayed abroad as well? If yes, how can you compare it locally? If not, what could you have wished for?
MS- Not yet,but maybe when I come back to japan, I’ll try to go, coz most of the cosplay conventions there are in tokyo and we live in Nagano, its a bit far >__<
K- Cosplay aside, what do you do outside the hobby/community?
MS- I love dogs, so my other hobby would be making cute accessories and clothes for my dogs, named beebee and bacheng. They are both girls, I also take them to dog shows and compete.
Megurine Luka – Vocaloid (Let’s be friend version)
K- How adorable! Hmm, I wonder if I can make Saku (my fat cat) compete too. hehe! Based on your experience, how’s about a message to aspiring cosplayers out there?
MS- Just have fun,I advice that if you have time, try to make your own costumes, its real stress releaver . And try not to think what other people will say when your cosplaying especially the negative things,as long as your happy with what your doing thats what cosplaying is about.
Elektra – Marvel Comics
K- TRANSFORM YOURSELF! Now that’s such a strong word indeed. Please tell me something about yourself that no one knows. Like, what makes you YOU?
MS- I’m a simple person, I have this one stand in life that if you hate me then I hate you too, If you like me then lets be friends. I’m also a very forgetful person and it often gets me in a lot of trouble and usually puts me in a bad mood.
K- Aaaaand I shall keep that in mind! *remembers our group plan that is yet to formulate* Well, best of luck to you my dear. Please continue to inspire us female cosplayers! *hugs*
MS- Thanks katz~ love you muah~!

Yuna – Final fantasy X2
