I started out as a con-goer back in 2008. It mattered so much to me how accurate and realistic one person can go to look exactly like the character they are cosplaying. So I’d like to take this opportunity to feature some of my favorite Cosplayers, whom I’ve had such honor in meeting and befriending along the way.. -katz
CosFeature n#28: Yuu Shomura.. aka jaRoukaSama
K- My next feature is a darling of the crowd, half-filipino half-japanese. She’s probably the sweetest gal I’ve ever known. She knows her business and her love for those important to her means the world to her. I realized this showed so much in her cosplays.. no wonder they all looked amazing!
Konnichiwa! Thank you so much for squeezing some time for me.
JS- Hi dear ninang (God mother)! it is no problem at all, for you, i am glad to do it o(^w^)o
K- Awww haha sweet as candy! Let us start from the beginning, shall we? What would you like to be called?
JS- Yuu is fine but i am also open to being called dyosa ng kagandahan (Goddes of Beauty), if you want heheheheh i am so full of myself, hahhaha gomen, i kid, i kid. XD
Misa Amane – Death Note
K- Your interest in cosplay, how and when did it start?
JS- mmmmmmm…. i have always loved watching anime. naturally, when you really like something or in this case a certain series, you will reaserch about it. when you go online to search about anime, cosplays will almost always pop up. that was how i stumbled upon cosplay.
alodia and ashley were very big, me and my sister honestly got intrigued. if they can do it, then maybe we can too! hahaha we started cosplaying in 2009, at that time, i was supposed to leave for something so i said to myself, i may not have the opportunity to try cosplay again so me and minami cosplayed. it was fun, we loved it and couldn’t get enough.
Ragnarok Online
K- I would almost think that you both could be the next Gosengfiao sisters, BUT.. there is definitely something special about you girls that sets it apart! Tell me, did you make your first costume back then? Or you had it tailored?
JS- hahahahah ah, memories. tailored. i didn’t know much about costumes props, wigs or make up back then. finding someone to make the costume at a good price was hard. most local tailors immediately get scared when they see that what you want them to make is a costume. heheheh
K- *toinks* I know how that feels. Bummer! Do you prefer solo or group cosplays?
JS- group cosplays are super fun! but i am honestly a very slow worker, i like working at my own pace. so i end up mostly doing solo or pair cosplays with my sister. i usually end up destroying the group’s line up because i am not able to finish my costume on time or something just comes up.
Luka (with Miku) – Vocaloid
White Bunny (Sheryl Nome) with Black Bunny – Macross Frontier
K- Errr.. yes I know what you mean. How much has cosplay taught you? Pros and Cons?
JS- A lot! cosplay has brought me closer to my sister, i got lots of really stellar and wonderful people as friends. i am able to excercise my creativity and learn from the process. because i am able to be somebody else even for just a short period of time, i have learned to reflect more and appreciate other people and myself better.
CONS.. i’d just have to say now, i know too many people hahahah and yes, it is a costly hobby so sometimes my wallet cries. hehehehehe
One of her awesome cosplays, as Dead Master – Vocaloid (Black Rock Shooter), won the Community’s Choice Award for CosplayGEN magazine
K- CONGRATZ again on winning the Community’s Choice Award for CosplgayGEN!! *hugs* oh have you cosplayed abroad as well? If yes, how can you compare it locally? If not, whatcould you have wished for?
JS- yep, i have. very different. Well, i only have SG as my point of comparison, the people there are much more nicer and friendlier, their venues are great. and the quality of their cosplay are really awesome.
K- I have never really been to a con abroad, but I did cosplay for a shoot there. Hehe so Cosplay aside, what do you do outside the hobby/community?
JS- i like reading, lounging around and dwelling on boredom. i like thinking a lot, sometimes it’s a hassle cause i can’t turn my brain off hehehehe
Tenma Tsukamoto (w/ Yakumo) – School Rumble
K- Oh you poor thing you! *pats head* Based on your experience, how’s about a message to aspiring cosplayers out there?
JS- too much of anything is bad, confidence is good but being too proud or arrogant is not acceptable. whatever you do in life, always do you very best and exert effort. dont be afraid to ask questions and to look for answers because you will never learn if you keep to yourself always. cosplay is a wonderful hobby, but don’t let it over run your life. Have fun but still remember to behave accordingly.
maybe you can read my blog too. hahahah i have lots of cosplay related articles that maybe of help to those aspiring to start cosplaying. COSPLAY, LIFE, RANTS AND A LOT OF RANDOM STUFF in MY BLOG! oh my, shameless plugging XD
C.C. – Code Geass
K- Now, please tell me something about yourself that no one knows. Like, what makes you YOU?
JS- Hahahaha! what makes yuu, yuu? gaaaaa tough one >_< uhmmmmm i always try to be a decent human being, i guess… uhmmmmmmmmm i like putting babay powder on my feet.
jaRoukaSama with capital R and S: is read as /ha-RU-ka-sama/
K- Now THAT makes Yuu, Yuu hehehe! WHERE TO FIND HER: jaroukaparade
Till next feature~~! *mhew*
